Remember the transphobic articles that I talked about a few weeks back?

One thing I didn't mention back then was that the site the articles were on (The Magazine Project) billed itself as "an open space for LGBT women". Guess what? They've now changed that. Instead of being "The Magazine Project", it's now called "The Magazine Project For Lesbians", and their post about it says:

On December 12, 2010, TMP became an inclusive space for lesbians only as we found it increasingly difficult to manage open discussions between lesbians and trans groups without inherent power dynamics and contention between the two. Although it would have been a progressive endeavour to unite the two groups, it is beyond our capacity at this point. We think there is tremendous opportunity and passion within the transwomen community to start a space of their own. We wish you the best in doing so.

So apparently it's not because of anything they did wrong, but it's all the fault of those blasted transthings(*), who obviously can't get along with them!

The only good thing I can salvage from this is that at least it's fairly obvious now that the site is engaging in lesbian separatism. I mean, with their tagline before about being an open space for LGBT women, one might have thought they were actually inclusive...

[(*) edit: I should clarify why I use the word "transthings" there to describe how they think of us, since it's obviously a hateful word and that sort of thing deserves explanation. The reasoning is quite simple: while the site *purports* to be neutral about this, there's a huuuuuge giveaway in the fact that they obviously consider "lesbians" and "transwomen" to be two mutually exclusive groups; if you're a transwoman, you cannot be a lesbian. Which, of course, is utter crap. So despite what they're trying to say, it's obvious that they don't actually consider us real women.]
